- Would you like to introduce yourself to your readers?
- Hello there! My name is Natalie Lopez. I am 24 and currently finishing my master’s degree in special education. I started writing my book in 2018 because my boyfriend was shot and killed. I originally wrote for my own personal journey, but I realized that my words and feelings may impact others.
- Congratulations for your debut book ma’am! What is the significance of the title “The Art of Healing”?
- In the beginning, my pain was awful. I did not understand why I was dealing with something so heartbreaking. However, my healing turned out to be the best thing to happen to me. It was truly an art. Writing is an art. Feeling the pain is an art.
- What do you hope your readers take away from this book?
- I hope that my readers understand that pain and suffering is inevitable. However, you are not the only person going through it. There are people out there who have been where you are. There are people you can lean on. That is another reason I decided to publish my book. I want people to know I have been where they may be, and I made it through.
- Do you like reading? Who is your favourite author?
- I love reading. My favorite author is Reyna Biddy. I love her books and her style of writing. I look up to her because she is able to draw you in with amazing details. She would also be the person I would want to be mentored by. I feel like I could learn a lot from her and her thought-process.
- What was the first thought that came to your mind that actually persuaded you to write your own book?
- I never thought about actually writing my own book until I realized that my words/feelings could benefit others going through a similar situation.
- What did you learn while writing this book?
- I learned so many things. I mainly learned about myself. I learned that my healing is not the same as others, but it is just as important. Writing this book made me stronger and wiser. I look at life differently because I know how short life really is.
- What were the difficulties you faced while writing this book?
- I was nervous about how my book would be received. I realized that didn’t matter. This was for me. I wanted to use this book to complete my healing. I was not sure what people that knew my boyfriend would think but now I know that my book has done so much good for others.
- What is your opinion on today’s relationships of the present youth?
- I think relationships today are complex. There are people who try and people who give up. However, the main thing I noticed is that we tend to take a lot of things for granted.
- Any message for your readers?
- A message I want all my readers to remember is that although pain and suffering will come and we may not understand why, the healing you do is completely up to you. Do not let anyone tell you how you should feel or how fast you need to move on with anything. You are in charge of your life.
Thank you for your beautiful interview.
