AUTHOR’S INTERVIEW OF C. Darden Paul FOR “Rise of The Runners”

Q1. Would you like to introduce yourself to your readers?
-I’m a teacher from The Bronx, New York. I teach social studies in middle school. I have been working with kids since I was in high school, volunteering my time. I love teaching and learning.

Q2. Congratulations on your book, sir. What’s the significance of the title?
-The title is about the Runners who are coming to change the world around them for the better.

Q3. What do you hope your readers take away from this book?
-I hope readers from all over the world can see and hear themselves within the pages of the book. I want people to learn about their cultures and other cultures as they follow along with the series. Most importantly, I want my students to feel represented in a classic, timeless adventure.

Q4. Who is your favourite author, and why?
-I actually don’t have a favourite author. I read a lot of books and am a general lover of a great story.

Q5. What was the first thought which came to your mind that actually persuaded you to write your own book?
-My students were the first thoughts that came to mind when I started writing. Every year my students from India, Mexico, and other countries ask me when I will talk about their history in class. I was tired of telling them I wasn’t going to talk about them because it wasn’t on a state test or in the curriculum. So I wrote a series as international as the students and cultures I teach.

Q6. How do you pick the subject and characters of your story, and what is your writing process?
-I started with what I know: where I’m from and history, and I built off of that. I just started writing and flushed it out.

Q7. What kind of books did you grow up reading? What genre do you prefer to read?
-I read a lot of history books. I still love history books.

Q8. What did you learn while writing this book?
-I learned that this book and the series is needed now more than ever. Art is supposed to get people talking, and it has done exactly that. I have also seen the excitement in the eyes of the people who have seen their flags and the disappointment from those who have not.

Q9. What were the difficulties you faced while writing this book?
-Writing the story was actually hard. I lost faith in myself and my abilities while writing, and then I had to search within myself to find it.

Q10.Which is the one thing that writing changed in you?
-It changed my focus. I became more focused on inspiring my students and those who read my work to embrace who they are and, hopefully, others.

Q11. Any message for your readers?
-Thank you for supporting me as an author, and I will never cheat you out of a great story. I will reward my fans with free content.

Q12. How does one become a better writer, according to you?
-To become a writer, pick a pen and let the thoughts flow.

Thank you for giving your time sir.
